Astronauts set to enjoy space sushi for the first time~
When Expedition 22 launched yesterday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, it carried not only three astronauts destined for the International Space Station, but raw seafood as well. Apparently that's what happens when you train a trio of astronauts in Japan: they turn into sushi nuts~
Luckily one of the astronauts is a capable sushi chef. Japan's Soichi Noguchi joins NASA's Timothy Creamer and Russia's Oleg Kotov, and Noguchi has promised to whip up a little sushi dinner for his fellow astronauts, saying, "We had training in Japan and I trained (my space colleagues) to be sushi lovers, so I am going to make a couple of flavors of sushi." He says the crew will be able to look forward to "...some sashimi, and raw fish and sushi and I will bring that up to the space station to share with my crew."~
Creamer, the expedition leader, says that he will be tweeting from the ISS — check out his feed here and maybe we'll get a review of Noguchi's sushi~
