Star Blazers set to air on SyFy in April ~

Woohoo! Seems the SyFy channel just keeps adding more anime to their lineup, and who can complain about that? The original Star Blazers will begin airing on the SyFy channel as of April 21 (a Thursday, which is where all of SyFy's anime will be moving from their original Monday airings.)~

The series originally aired in the U.S. from 1979 to 1984, with a total of 77 episodes, so now is the perfect time to go back and relive the series (or experience it for the first time!) For those of you who don't know, Star Blazers is set in a sort of post-apocalyptic future where alien bombings have ruined the Earth and all those still living are underground. However, radiation has begun leaking deeper and deeper from the bombings so the Space Cruiser Argo is sent out to retrieve advanced technology from the planet Iscandar in order to save what's left of Earth, and they only have one year to do it!~

Time-lapse of a whole night at the ALMA Array Operations Site (AOS), located at 5000 meters altitude on the Chajnantor plateau, in the II Region of Chile. As the Moon sets at the beginning of the night, three of the first ALMA antennas start tests as part of the ongoing Commissioning and Science Verification process. Happy 10th Birthday, “All Your Base” Video~

Happy 10th Birthday, “All Your Base” Video~

On February 16th, 2001, human culture was forever changed when the “All Your Base Are Belong To Us” music video was uploaded to Newgrounds.com. (Person from 2001: “YouTube? What’s that?”) Of course, Zero Wing, the remarkably badly translated Japanese space shooter game from which the video dialogue is yoinked, was made in 1989, and even in 2000, forumers thought the All Your Base thing was old. But the Newgrounds video was enough to make it cross over from geeky shibboleth to one of the first true viral hits. (A week after the video surfaced, Wired wrote about the All Your Base phenomenon.)~

So thank you, Zero Wing, Newgrounds, and uploader BadCRC; you have set up us the bomb in our hearts~

Japan Has The Greatest Ragequits~

Video games tend to have a bad reputation for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the tendency for certain overstimulated teenagers to break their toys–or in the case of video games, their controllers and LCDs. A Japanese man, having failed to get a high score in what appears to be a 'beatmania' type game gets so angry that he decides to jump out of a window~

He’s like that kid in “Shine.” He just can’t take it~

Canned coffee manga~

One of Japan’s most popular FMCG is canned coffee, which typically means it is a product that can be relied upon for interesting and innovative campaigns~

Now JT’s Roots brand has collaborated with Jump Manga for the Roots x Manga Capsule campaign to give consumers something to read while they drink. With the slogan “one can = one story”, it lives up to its name by offering customers who purchase Roots coffee a QR code on the can from which they can download mini comic book episodes~

The available library includes 100 popular Jump titles, including One Piece, Dragon Ball, Bleach and Naruto, viewable until December 27th when the campaign finishes. The episodes are renewed every week on Tuesdays and Fridays, encouraging you to keep buying your Roots coffee to read more episodes~

Chinese Starcraft/Warcraft Amusement Park?~

It's called Joyland World, and it's a theme park based on Starcraft and World of Warcraft...~

...There are sub-parks that are built around World of Warcraft and Starcraft themes complete with coasters and other attractions, and there will also be a video game museum and electronic gaming sports arena. Pictures from last month show that most of the coasters have been put together, but the rest of the park still needs a fair amount of work~

In traditional Chinese fashion, the park obtained absolutely zero licensing rights from Blizzard (suck it, Snowstorm!), but are using the Warcraft and Starcraft names anyways. Which, I'm not gonna lie, is exactly what I would've done. You know or renamed them Storcraft and Worcraft LIKE AN ETHICAL BUSINESSPERSON. Just kidding, ethics are dead~ lol~

Uber Bad Ass : Man Brings Knife To 40-Man Sword & Gunfight, Prevents A Rape~

Nepalese soldier Bishnu Shrestha accepts an award for being a total badass and killing/maiming/scaring the living shit out of an entire gang of armed robbers/would-be-rapists off a train with nothing but a knife~

40 men armed with knives, swords and guns stormed the train and began robbing the passengers~

Bishnu kept his peace while the gang snatched cell phones, jewelry and cash from other riders. But then, the thugs grabbed the 18 year-old girl sitting next to him and forcefully stripped her naked. Before the bandits could rape the poor girl in front of her helpless parents, Bishnu decided he had enough~

"The girl cried for help, saying ´You are a soldier, please save a sister´," Shrestha recalled. "I prevented her from being raped, thinking of her as my own sister."~

Here's the part of the story that makes you cheer. He pulls out a kukri (i.e. a knife) and proceeds to kill 3 of them, injure 8 of them, and causes the rest to flee. During the battle, he suffered a severe knife injury to his left hand, from which he's now recovered~

Wow, pretty insane, Well done Bishnu~
