Japan gets 3D Blu-ray recorders, US customers can suck it~
It's been nearly four years since Blu-ray was launched, yet it's still almost impossible to buy a Blu-ray recorder in the US. Now Japanese customers are getting 3D Blu-ray recorders~
Toshiba has announced five 3D recordable Blu-ray recorders for home market, all of which have built in hard drives. The flagship RD-X10 with come ready for 3D out of the box and includes a 2TB HDD for 220,000 Yen ($2,550), while lesser "3D ready" models will start at 80,000 Yen ($925) for the D-BZ500~
Sure, most Americans these days record things to a DVR, but even with a 1TB HDD, my own DVR is starting to get pretty full. No to mention the possibility of losing everything if that sucker ever crashes. It would be nice if we could archive things permanently onto a disc with a recorder like this~

Jimmy Fallon plays the history of gaming consoles in 60 seconds~
Yesterday on Late Night, Jimmy Fallon attempted to break a record by playing ten different video game systems in 60 seconds, completing at least one play on each before moving to the next~
He got awfully close, but had a little trouble teeing off playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the Nintendo Wii, leaving him too late to complete a play with Madden NFL on the Xbox 360~
The console lineup was an awesome display of historic systems and games, including classics like The Legend of Zelda on an original NES, Sonic The Hedgehog on a vintage Sega Genesis, and Donkey Kong Country on a Super NES~
Skip about 2.5 minutes into the video, unless you want to watch a guy getting slapped by pizza slices for another record~

Aperture Science, Now In Your Bedroom~
t's so simple; all you need is a mirror, some blue paint, and a love for Valve's masterpiece in virtual teleportation~
Suitably, considering this comes from Sweden, the mirror is from IKEA (a Kolja, if you're taking notes), and the rest really is as simple as it looks. Just paint a two-tone blue border around the oval-shaped mirror, stick it on your wall, and you're good to go~
Those requiring the full Portal effect, just buy two mirrors and get some orange paint!

Bout Time : Princess Bride Board Game : Storming The Castle~
I can’t believe it took this long to make a board game based on The Princess Bride—but here you have it. Storming the Castle: The Princess Bride Card Game~
Playing as Westley, Buttercup, Inigo, or Fezzik, you’ll race your adversaries traversing your Path Tiles to get to the castle. But you’ll have to make sure you have the proper Tactic Cards to get you onto each tile. Maybe you’ll even play a card that will add Path Tiles to your opponent’s path. Inconceivable? Not in the least! Storm the castle, save the princess (even if you are the princess), and win the game. Add your own favorite quotes as you play, and Storming the Castle: The Princess Bride Game is some of the best fun you’ll ever have. Ever~

Jelloware Edible Drinking Glasses~
Jelloware re-imagines the concept of drinking, and imparts a new experience in the way it feels, tastes, smells, moves, and is even disposed of. The cups are made entirely out of agar agar and cast in different flavors, such as lemon-basil, ginger-mint, or rosemary-beet, each specifically designed to compliment a corresponding drink. Jelloware is meant to be thrown into the grass after it is used (can be eaten as well), as agar agar is a seaweed extract and actually nurtures the growth of plants~

The Flowlab Skateboard~
"The Flowlab Skateboard allows you to surf without waves and snowboard without snow." Unlike a regular skateboard, the Flowboard has 14 wheels, which gives them a handling similar to a snowboard. A regular skateboard, which can lean up to 25 degrees, the Flowboard - allow you to carve at 45 degrees, using 14 wheels rather then the traditional 4. It looks cool, watch the video of it in action. Designed by Mike Simonian in collaboration with Pieter Schoten, a couple of San Francisco design students looking for a way to skate down the city’s steep hillsides~

Portrait Projecting Ring~
Working with local jeweller Tamrakar, this ring was created for the wedding of Luke Jerram and Shelina Nanji. In a darkened room, light from a candle or LED passes through the ring to project a series of portraits. A selection of miniature slides were made of different family portraits and inserted into the edge of the ring for projection. As Jerram's family grows, photos of his children can be added to the ring. The ring was inspired by 19th Century Standhopes~

Zack Snyder has, at last, made the only film he was ever really meant to make. Oh, don't worry, he's still over-sensualizing every figure, gesture, and scene, but this time he's realized he might as well throw some girls in there instead of homoerotic subtext and uncomfortable sex scenes--and he's even set most of the narrative inside the mind of a crazy girl, making it that much easier to ignore the logic flaws in the ramshackle plot and concentrate entirely on all the slow-motion shit!~

Big Bloomer in Tokyo~
The media has been excited the last few days about the rare blooming of a titan arum (the world’s largest flower) at a garden in Tokyo~
At the Koishikawa Botanical Gardens — managed by the University of Tokyo — the titan arum bloomed for the first time in 1991. The plant that flowered just recently was grown from a seed given by an American researcher in 1993~
On the afternoon of July 22, the leaves surrounding the 1.5-meter-tall stem began to open. The plant reached “full bloom” at around 7 p.m. the same day, with a diameter of about 80 centimeters~
The distinctive feature of the titan arum is its strong smell reminiscent of rotten meat, which the plant gives off to attract insects for pollination~

Man Legally Changes Name To Buzz Lightyear~
Steve Bolton (Michael's talentless brother) is a British man who recently changed his name to Buzz Lightyear~
A mechanic from West Bromwich, who considers himself to be the world's biggest 'Toy Story' fan, has officially changed his name to Buzz Lightyear~
Such was Steve Bolton's love for the first two movies, he decided to do something special for the launch of 'Toy Story 3', so the 26-year-old contacted the UK Deed Poll Service and paid for the name change. Now he can legally have "Buzz Lightyear" on his passport (whether the destination "infinity and beyond" is acknowledged remains to be seen), credit cards etc~
Oh so you're the biggest 'Toy Story' fan, are you Steve? Well I've got news for you: THERE'S NO F***ING WAY. There are kids out there that love those movies more than you've ever loved anything in your life. Just sayin', if I ripped Woody's arms off would you crap your pants and cry all day? Exactly~

Zombie Jerky Coming To The US~
Originally this was only available only in Japanese shops. I just got word that my friends at Harcos Labs are bringing the undead flavor home with a brand of jerky designed for discriminating US palates. It’s green first off, which means that the quality of zombie meat is much higher than the blue stuff from Japan (which must have been mostly rotted noses and entrails). It’s also packed with 11 grams of protein per serving with only 1 gram of fat~

BrewDog Makes The Strongest Beer To Ever Be Served Inside a Squirrel~
The End of History from BrewDog on Vimeo.
BrewDog has become renowned in recent years for making incredibly strong beer, and their latest concoction is yet another record breaker. At 55% alcohol by volume, The End Of History has become the world’s strongest and most expensive beer. Oh, and this is a minor detail, but it’s served inside of a squirrel~
I kid you not, BrewDog is bottling their beer in your choice of a dead stoat or a grey squirrel at $764 and $1070 a pop. So very, very disturbing.
If you can move past the squirrel thing for a moment, the beer just happens to be a blond Belgian ale that was brewed using the controversial fractional freezing distillation method, which could be considered as cheating (Samuel Adams Utopias on the other hand, is 27% alcohol by volume but was brewed the hard way and aged for 10 years in casks)~via : asylum

Finally, It's Settled: The Chicken Came First~
Well folks, scientists claim they now have proof that the chicken came before the egg. Great, now I'm hungry~
"It had long been suspected that the egg came first, but now we have the scientific proof that shows that in fact the chicken came first," Sheffield University's Dr Colin Freeman, according to a report in the Metro~
Researchers from Scotland and England used a supercomputer called HECToR to look in such detail at a chicken eggshell that they were able to determine the vital role of a protein used to kick-start the egg's formation~
That protein is only found, wait for it... inside a chicken~
Freeman, who worked on HECToR with counterparts at Edinburgh's Warwick University, said the protein had been identified earlier by scientists and was known to be linked to egg formation, "but by examining it closely we have been able to see how it controls the process," he added, describing it as a catalyst~
I'm not gonna lie, that was a lot less interesting than I was hoping. Also, less convincing. I give it a year before they're saying the egg came first and there's evidence a human traveled back in time to have sex with dinosaurs. Let me guess -- I left a condom wrapper~

Macy’s to have Xbox 360 Kinect demos next week, hardcore what?~
Microsoft has said over and over and over again that the Kinect is a serious gaming tool, designed for everyone from casual to hardcore gamers. But apparently the marketing team didn’t get the memo because starting next week, the system’s very first public demo will be at 13 Macy’s stores nationwide. The system’s cred will official be thrown-out if there’s commercials showing Martha Stewart and Kenneth Cole flailing their arms around, hitting imaginary dodge balls~
It’s an unexpected but not really strange move on Microsoft’s part. Best Buy and Gamestop shoppers already know all about Kinect. They’ve known what it does and how it works since its 2009 E3 teaser. The average Macy’s shopper doesn’t, though. Marketing is all about opening up new demographics to your product or service and that’s exactly what this campaign is attempting~
The demos will run at 13 unannounced stores starting July 15th~
